How to Keep Your Family Healthy During the Pandemic

How to Keep Your Family Healthy During the Pandemic, Light House School of Excellence, Spring, TX

by | Jan 15, 2021 | Parenting Tips

Headlines about COVID-19 seem to both raise hope and paint a negative picture at the same time. A vaccine has been created, but the rollout so far has been lacking. Plenty of families will have to continue their efforts to stay healthy without the help of an immunization for a while yet.

For parents, this challenge is especially daunting. In-person classes may adhere to strict social distancing guidelines to prevent viral spread, but there are still plenty of other ways to be exposed. Let’s take a closer look at how to keep yourself and your family safe from the coronavirus.

As 2021 begins, don’t lose sight of the need to continue protecting yourself and your children from sickness. Learn about several guidelines to continue following here. #LightHouseSchool #parenting Share on X

Continue Wearing Masks & Social Distancing

First and most obviously, don’t stop wearing masks and observing social distancing. These two methods have been shown to be remarkably effective in preventing transmission of the virus. For adults who have to return to the office or kids who have in-person classes again, these methods are especially critical. Keep it up.

Take Common-Sense Health Measures

Washing your hands has always been an essential part of health and cleanliness. Don’t stop doing it! Wash your hands before eating and after returning from a public place. Encourage your kids not to touch their faces (or at least to wash their hands first). If soap and water aren’t available, hand sanitizer works in a pinch. The bottom line is to keep your hands clean.

In addition to typical habits like handwashing, consider adding a few new habits to your routine. Take advantage of those sanitizing wipes at the grocery store to wipe the cart handle. Make your purchases online if possible and use a credit card for in-person transactions. Disinfect your countertops after placing grocery bags on them. Reduce viral transmission as much as you can.

Wait for the Vaccine

As for the vaccine, all we can do is wait. Frontline healthcare workers, elderly people, and particularly vulnerable groups are first in line to be vaccinated, and even plenty of them are on a waiting list. The vaccine will likely not be available to families for a while yet. Until it is, the best strategy is to continue taking precautions and keeping your family safe.

Protecting Your Family from COVID-19

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. The pandemic will not last forever, and the vaccine will eventually be available to everyone. In the meantime, do your best to keep the virus away from your family. Just a few changes to your routine can make a big difference.
