The world has become dominated by technology. From Ipads to AI, we rely on technology for many things. Since we have infinite knowledge and entertainment at the touch of a finger, the desire to play outside may have dwindled. Technology is awesome and can teach kids so much, however, it is still so important to plan active games. Here are three ways for children to stay active while having fun! Share on X
How Can You Stay Active with Your Kids?
Exercising with your children can definitely be fun for the whole family. It’s all about giving the little ones options so that they can choose an activity that they’ll enjoy. If you’re looking for games that will get your kids moving, here are three:
- Hide-and-Seek
- Obstacle Courses
- Animal Races
1) Hide-and-Seek
This classic game never gets old. You can play the traditional hide-and-seek where someone closes their eyes and counts to twenty while everyone else hides. Whoever is found becomes “it”. You can also play hide-and-seek tag, where you have a base that means you are safe and can’t become “it.” The child who is “it” has to lightly touch the person after they’re found. This outdoor game is tons of fun for children of all ages.
2) Obstacle Courses
Another fun activity is to create obstacle courses. You can do this outdoors or indoors on a rainy day. You can use masking tape to create a start line on the ground. Stack pillows for them to climb or knock over. Depending on the age and skill level of your child, you can incorporate a bean bag toss, a stuffed animal “rescue”, or anything else really. Release your inner child and get creative with this one. Ask your children if they have any ideas for this, as well.
3) Animal Races
Animal races are great outdoor or indoor games. Consider reading an age-appropriate book about different animals. Afterward, ask them which one they want to pretend to be and have animal races. They can crawl around and “moo” like a cow or crab walk on their hands and legs backward.
Pro Tip: Animal races are a fun way for children to use their imagination while getting their hearts pumping.
Healthy, Happy Kids
Technology isn’t a bad thing. It’s given us the ability to learn at incredible paces like never before. However, too much of anything can be bad. It’s necessary for children’s physical and mental health to get up and be active.
