1) A Penguin of Love

Penguins are adorable, fun winter creatures to teach your children about. You can talk about the black and white colors and how they’re used as camouflage. Explain how penguins are flightless birds who thrive in freezing temperatures.

Pro Tip: Since this craft incorporates heart shapes, tell your little ones how penguins find one mate for life.

What You’ll Need:

• Black, white, pink, and orange construction paper
• Scissors
• Glue

How to make the love penguin:

1. Cut a large oval out for the penguin body.
2. Cut a white heart for the tummy.
3. Cut out two black hearts for the wings.
4. Cut out two smaller orange hearts for the penguin feet and an orange triangle for the beak.
5. Cut out four circles- two white for the eyes and two black for the pupils.
6. Cut out a small pink heart for the penguin’s heart.
7. Have your child glue the pieces together to assemble their penguin.

2) A Winter Tree

Kids may be wondering why all of the trees are bald in the winter. This is the perfect winter themed craft to teach toddlers and preschoolers about the changing seasons. Just go outside and collect some twigs with your preschooler for this craft.

What You’ll Need:

• Wood/PVC Glue
• Twigs (A large one for the trunk and smaller ones for the branches)
• Paper for the background
• White and silver glitter for the snow

How to Make the Winter Tree:

1. Collect twigs
2. Glue the large stick (trunk) down first and then glue the other twigs onto the paper background to form a tree. (Young children may need some help and guidance with this.)
3. Squeeze glue on the “tree branches” and sprinkle “snow” glitter onto the branches.

3) Sparkly Snowflakes

This craft is another fun idea to teach little kids about the changing seasons. Even if you live in a state like Texas where it never or very seldom snows, you can show them pictures and videos of snow.

What You’ll Need:

• 3 craft popsicle sticks per snowflake
• Wood/PVC glue
• Glitter and/or jewels

How to Make the Sparkly Snowflakes:

1. Glue the popsicle sticks to form a snowflake. Two in the shape of an X, and one vertically down the middle.
2. Help children add glue on the snowflake.
3. Add glitter and jewels.
