1) Frozen Chocolate Bananas
This is a perfect, easy snack to have in the freezer for when the kids get home from school. All you need is bananas, toothpicks and dark chocolate made for baking. Cut the bananas into bite-size pieces and put a toothpick in the top. Melt the chocolate and dip the bananas; be sure to cover them entirely. Place on parchment paper, freeze overnight and voilà! Kid-friendly, after school, quick snacking.
2) Homemade Guacamole
Guacamole is really easy to make at home! All you need is a couple of avocados, pink Himalayan salt, pepper, and lime juice. (Optional: diced tomatoes) You’ll want to have juice from one lime for every two avocados that you use. Simply mix the ingredients together and mash the avocados. Dip organic corn chips or veggies into the guac for a great snack.
Pro Tip: Try making your child’s favorite cartoon character’s face out of veggies or toppings on top of any snacks that they typically wouldn’t try.
3) Healthier Peanut Butter Cups
This is a snack that kids will love. But, you’ll probably want to make it occasionally as it’s not necessarily that healthy. However, it is better than a traditional candy bar. For this, you will need meltable dark chocolate, natural peanut butter, honey, and a mini muffin tin and liners. Combine about a half cup of peanut butter and 1-2 tablespoons of honey. Melt the chocolate and pour about ⅓ of the way into the muffin tins. Add a scoop of the peanut butter and honey mixture and top with the remaining chocolate. Place in the freezer for a few hours and that’s it.
4) Fruit Pizza
This snack idea is fun for kids to make themselves. All you’ll need is their favorite fruit sliced up, plain or vanilla yogurt and whole wheat tortillas. Help young children spread a thin layer of yogurt on the tortilla and top with their fruit, and there you have it- a fruity pizza.
